Teflon™ NXT 70, 75, and 85 Resins

A Powerful Family of Chemically Modified PTFE Resins

The properties typical of Teflon™ PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) resins enhance processing and offer a substantial combination of solutions. Options include fine-cut or pelletized, chemically modified granular resins.

As high-performance fluoropolymer resins, Teflon™ NXT resins exhibit the following properties:

  • Nonaging characteristics
  • Chemical inertness
  • Heat resistance
  • Durability and flexibility
  • Low coefficient of friction
  • Nonstick characteristics
  • Negligible moisture absorption
  • Weatherability
  • Minimal sagging in billets weighing as much as 350 kg(800 lb)
  • Increased resistance to chemical permeation
  • Higher dielectric breakdown voltage
  • Compliance with FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.1550

Teflon™ NXT 70/75 Resins: Modified Fluoropolymers Useful for Many Industries

Even at relatively low molding pressures, the small particle size of Teflon™ NXT 70/75 resins helps minimize voids. Intended to modify the mechanical properties of moldings, this white powder is comprised of irregular, fibrous particles that facilitate good capture and uniform distribution of inorganic fillers.

Used as a base resin for compounds and general compression molding for sheets and blocks, the applications for Teflon™ NXT 70/75 resins include:

  • Seal rings
  • Valve seats
  • Bearing pads
  • Linings
  • Encapsulations

Teflon™ NXT 70/75 resins make an excellent base resin for filled compounds. Teflon™ NXT 75 resin is also used to weld parts requiring PFA or standard PTFE, such as fluid-handling systems.

The Flexibility of Teflon™ NXT 85 Resin

When converted to parts by isostatic, billet, and sheet molding methods and ram extrusion, this modified granular fluoropolymer resin is used for:

  • Valve seats
  • Fittings
  • Pipe valve and vessel liners
  • Seal rings
  • Bearing pads
  • Electrical insulation

This resin also enhances manufacturing where parts must be welded to other fluoropolymers like PFA or standard PTFE—such as fluid-handling systems.

Features and Benefits

Compression molding techniques can be used with Teflon™ NXT 70/75 resins during processing. A pressure of 14 MPa (2,000 psi) at room temperature is recommended to make a preform. Existing equipment can be used to manufacture larger sheets because Teflon™ NXT 70/75 resins reach maximum density at lower pressures after sintering.

Safety, Storage, and Handling

The product data sheets provide specific information on recommended safe handling practices.

A uniform resin temperature that ranges between 21 and 27 °C (70 and 80 °F) makes preforming easier. When temperatures dip below this range, the resin becomes more difficult to mold; cracks may form and moisture may accumulate. Higher temperatures inhibit flow and promote lumping. Set storage temperatures accordingly.

White resin and high sintering temperatures cause even the smallest foreign particles to become visible in finished moldings. Having a clean environment, equipment, and work area is vital for best results. Keep resin drums closed and clean.
